Pardon the sports analogy, but it certainly is applicable. Bottom line for increasing revenue (and that's what we're REALLY looking for, right?!) - You either have to train-up for skills that increase your "batting average"...or you have to step up to the plate more often.
If you believe the answer is higher conversions, WITHOUT dropping the bottom on rate, then ongoing TRAINING for a more customized and recognizeably "professional" presentation is the answer.
Think of it this way: Don't we tend to admire a trait in another person that we deep-down believe is something that we ALSO hold dearly and/or believe that we do well? You can't impress a veteran more than with (genuine) patriotism, you will always get a mother's attention when you talk about children, etc., etc.
If that's a given, then shouldn't we be training our front line sales - front desk and reservations - to literally emulate a behaviour/trait that is most "common" to the people they are trying to sell. Would you believe that the most common denominator for your guests - whether weekday "corporate" or weekend "leisure" is the appreciation of PROFESSIONAL Salesmanship. I could argue that a majority of your guests are either salespeople by title, or, at least, salespeople by job description. Engineers, consultants, and especially small business owners/executives - they SELL...and they look for and admire those same traits in the staff and establishments that they choose to patronize.
